Noise from total hip replacements

چکیده
OBJECTIVES Our study aimed to examine not only the incidence but also the impact of noise from two types of total hip replacement articulations: ceramic-on-ceramic and ceramic-on-polyethylene. METHODS We performed a case-controlled study comparing subjective and objective questionnaire scores of patients receiving a ceramic-on-ceramic or a ceramic-on-polyethylene total hip replacement by a single surgeon. RESULTS There was a threefold higher incidence of noise from patients in the ceramic-on-ceramic group compared with the control group. The impact of this noise was significant for patients both subjectively and objectively. CONCLUSIONS This study reports a high patient impact of noise from ceramic-on-ceramic total hip replacements. This has led to a change in practice by the principal author. Cite this article: Bone Joint Res 2014;3:183-6.

متن کاملType 3 finger length pattern is associated with total knee replacements due to osteoarthritis but not with hip replacements or hand osteoarthritis in the elderly: The AGES-Reykjavik study
BACKGROUND Recent case-control studies have shown an association between type 3 finger length pattern (longer ring finger than index finger) and knee osteoarthritis. This large cross-sectional study tests the hypothesis that the type 3 pattern is associated with total joint replacements due to osteoarthritis in a large population based study. METHODS Finger length ratios were assessed visuall...
متن کاملA Single Femoral Component for All Total Hip Replacements Performed by a Trust? Does This Affect Early Clinical and Radiological Outcomes?

The ROBODOC system was designed to address potential human errors in performing cementless total hip replacement. The system consists of a preoperative planning computer workstation (called ORTHODOC) and a five-axis robotic arm with a high speed milling device as an end effector. The combined experience of the United States Food and Drug Administration multicenter trial and the German postmarke...
